Make It March: under construction

Oh me, oh my! It's almost a week since I last blogged! I have been "being creative" I promise but not in a tangible "handle it in your sweaty mitts" type of way - I've been virtual creating aka on the internet.
I've spent the last week creating a virtual social network for a local artists' cooperative, the Blackberry Artist's Society, and now it's ready to unleash on the general public. I've opened twitter and flickr accounts, set up a blog and facebook fanpage ..... and then magically interconnected them with auto-updating. This little lot logged around eight hours at the keyboard time! Not a quick process.
Now that it's all set up I just need to create content, mastermind a blogging schedule and promote the giftshop.
Be a dear and link to us! The details are in the nice bookmarking Follow Me button below from Social Follow!

Make It March: ruffles

ruffles, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

Yesterday I had a bit of a holiday from jewelry but still stuck to my Make It March theme.
Swaporamarama came to town so I indulged in some hedonistic sewing and upcycling. It's very easy to forget to make stuff for yourself if you are running a crafting business since all your creating time is technically spoken for by the business, and often working on hobbies is the last thing on your mind at the end of a hard day.
But when you're out of the home, and there are sewing machines, fabric, notions, upcyclable clothing and more on tap then what's to stop your inner child from coming out to play?
Thank you ArtsConnect and Douglas College for a wonderful afternoon.
Read more about it here.

Fuzzy Friday: the remake edition

snowflakes - my way, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.
These fibre and wire stars are destined to become fascinators - see here for a pic (and the secret of youth!)

Rather than being trashed I'm upcycling/repurposing which makes me feel very eco-aware!

So what do you do to re-vamp your work?

Make It March day 7

simple drilled sea glass cufflinks

simple drilled seaglass and sterling cufflinks

The sea glass tablets, collected from the beach in Scotland I used to play on as a wee girl, have been ready drilled for a while now. So yesterday I torched and pickled the wire then assembled the fittings.

Voila! They're part of what's turning into my "simplicity" collection - a range of simple, classic, unadorned pieces similar to this argentium sterling lace cuff.

simply silver

Cufflinks above for sale on Etsy, $82 plus shipping.

Lace argentium cuff is a custom order only right now.

ring cycle

wire and fibre ring: poppy

purple poppy: wire and fibre needlefelted ring

Finishing a project off is as good as starting a new one!

I'm really pleased with this ring. It's an almost first for me in wire crochet and a continuation in exploring a new technique to add into my wire pieces. This bracelet was the first one (and it sold!) and I hope to explore some more in less functional, more artistic projects (though I hope that all my pieces get worn sometimes). Maybe I'll have a whole bouquet of these little rings soon!

Make It March: day 2

my windowsill today

my window ledge photographic studio in action!

Well rather frustratingly, today all I did was take product pics and photoshop them for listing.

But I did get it all done, and the listings are now all bookmarked to add to my etsy shop this week so maybe tomorrow I can settle down at the bench and create?

PS: green fuzzy annelli necklace shown on bust now for sale

Make It March

hmmm!

In January I recovered from Christmas.

In February I set up a work from home routine and dealt with all the paperwork.

In March I will have to do my taxes, but as some light relief my blog posts here will have the theme "Make It March". I'm planning on creating some new pieces and listing work for sale ie. making stuff, and hopefully making some money to pay the taxes! It's not going to be as intense as Design-A-Day April from two year's ago but I will be posting WIP and finished pieces almost daily.

I already have some inspiration, as you can see above. This beautiful lampworked glass bead fits onto a handknit wire chain. I'm working on a clasp for the chain and testing out its strength in the final design. It's a kind of knitted orbitals design but with the bead strung instead of incorporated into the mesh as in this gold wire bracelet.
