my heart, my home

midnight 'milky way' cuff
'milky way' night sky wire and fibre cuff - wool, copper-core coated wire, glass, gemstones, pearl

I thought I'd set a theme going while my work's on display at Port Moody Arts Centre.
I've already posted a few numerous bletherings about my "home is where the heart is" exhibitions so I'll try now to introduce the pieces on display. Most are for sale thru the arts centre, btw ;)

But first, how did I end up taking over the display case in the Plum Gallery?
It was a total fluke. By Christmas, there was a gap in the exhibition schedule and I was asked if I would like to fill it. The theme was totally up to me, no pressure but pieces were needed by the beginning of March.
I accepted.

Christmas, and I was busy with prepping for two other exhibitions plus all the usual domestic concierge stuff that goes with the festive season, so I didn't really have time to do much towards my first ever solo show. I didn't even have a theme until the end of January. I had an idea to theme around whatever was also showing in the gallery when I was 'in residence'. The only other confirmed artist was Kathy Zhang who was exhibiting 'a series of interiors' (these are unlike any interiors you have ever seen - you really should see them!) This got me thinking.
... then I remembered a series of work from my buddy and co-conspirator, Tanis Alexis "we shall live here" which I adored in both concept and execution.
... which reminded me of why I got started making jewelry in the first place.

fibre friday: handmade for mother's day

2010-12-08_15-59-42_709

These cute little wire and fibre flower brooches will be for sale at the upcomgin Got Craft? spring market next Sunday (Mother's Day, don'tcha know?).
Why not come down and say hello to them in person (and then take one home to make you feel all spring-like)?
It would also be a huge treat for mum to take her to one of the raddest handmade shopping spree events in town.

See you there :)

self portrait of the artist

I finished my necklace for the evening's opening reception. Many thanks to all my friends who came out to the arts centre (even though it was hockey night and the start of the holidays).
The exhibition runs until the end of May and I'll be blogging about the pieces through the month.

saturday shout out: the two of us

saturday shout out: the two of us: "

I can think of no better subject for a Saturday shout out then me and the amazing Tanis. We need a jolly good shout out cos we're awesome artists (well, Tanis is the bona fide artist here) and we're both having our first solo shows at Port Moody Arts Centre.
Our exhibition, "home is where the heart is" is an exploration of the concept of home through mixed media pieces. The opening reception is on Thursday, 21st April 6-8pm (refreshments, cash bar). And we'd love to see you there :)

studio portrait thursday: the empty bench

It's empty. After all the hustle, bustle and deadlines of the last six months my bench is empty.

I've prepped for christmas craft fairs, created for not one, not two, but three gallery exhibitions - every spare minute has been has been filled, every shelf/box/tray/cubby hole in my studio has been filled with WIPs and finished items.

But now it's all complete.

What next?

my mother's necklace

Well I need to make some pieces to wear for 'my' opening reception next week - I have an idea for revamping a necklace of my mum's.
And I might try some new embroidery/textile ideas on a cuff.
So I won't be bored :)

PS: opening reception for "home is where the heart is" takes place Thursday, April 21st at the Port Moody Arts Centre (6-8pm).

ignoringness

This month I have mostly been ignoring;
- my Etsy shops (ebb and flo and pomo mama design)
- this blog
- the housework
- my exercise routine
- food prep
- my B&Ms (that's bricks and mortars aka shops IRL)
- advertising my upcoming wire crochet classes (three evening workshop at Port Moody Arts Centre starts next Wednesday, and a multi-strand cuff workshop at Bird on a Wire, Friday 22nd at 10.30am)
- updating my craft fair listings (add Got Craft? for Sunday, May 9th and Fab Fair in June)

but I have been creating ... lots of adorable fibre-y goodies for the upcoming "home is where the heart is" exhibition which opens at Port Moody Arts Centre in time for the weekend artwalk.
See you there?
