onwards to May!

exotic bloom ring, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

Goodbye April. Whew! That was busy month and all for the purpose of setting up May.

So what's happening in May?
Well, I'm featured artist at the Blackberry Giftshop in the Port Moody Arts Centre for one thing. My new needlefelted flower rings are on show (and for sale there). The exhibit, Thinking of Green, closes on May 8th so my Into the Garden, Moss and Rainforest pieces will be coming home.

On Sunday I'll be at the Got Craft? spring fair in the Legion Hall on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. It's the biggest indie fair in Vancouver and IMO a really good one for both vendors and buyers. Come out and support local handmade!

After Sunday work slows down a little (phew!). The last jewelry design class at Place des Arts wraps up on Thursday, my son's birthday celebrations finish the day before, and then I can spend the rest of the month on a custom project, prepping inventory for two local boutiques and then there's Fab Fair at the beginning of June!

I think I might treat myself to a week's holiday though - the lure of new spring shoes is calling!

I've updated the shopping page on the website with the new info.

psssst! want to learn to make this?

a new mermaid, originally uploaded by ebbandflo_pomomama.

I'll be running a jewelry design workshop at Place des Arts on Thursday evenings from April 22nd where you can learn the five different techniques encompassed in this necklace design.
Either combine all the strands to make your own 'mermaid' asymmetric collar or come away with 4 or 5 cute necklaces or bracelets.
We'll be covering wirework and wrapping, crimping and bead wire, chainmaille and basic chains. Of course, there will be some wire crochet too!

See you there!

fuzzy friday: you'll have someone's eye out with that, my dear

Yes, those are metal stamens.
Not the most practical of pieces but fun to make and fun to make a statement with (and smite your enemies too?).

W.I.P April

... or maybe I should say R.I.P. April.

I naively thought that April was going to be a leisurely month, in which taxes would be posted and the creative process would flow.

That was until I turned the page on my calendar and realised how much time I had lost thru fighting a heavy cold in addition to Spring Break.

So from the top (with gusto);
1. swag promos for Got Craft Spring fair in May, 20 of them due by April 16th
2. gallery exhibition opening on Thursday at Port Moody Arts Centre (must supply nibbles)
3. wire crochet and jewelry class prep (listed here)
4. Port Moody Arts Walk studio tour - I'm taking part!
5. Featured Artist for May in the Blackberry Gift Shop

... and did I mention it's taxes month?

Make It! March under review

So maybe I didn't get quite as much made as I expected but I never set out for the theme to be a design-a-day challenge!
Anyway, I'm pleased with the results - I came up with at least two new designs (the fuzzy felted flower rings and the spool knit necklace) plus I repurposed some wire and fibre stars, making my first tiaras! I finally "made real" my drilled seaglass cufflink design and am very happy with the result! I also took a week out from working at the bench to set up my local artists' cooperative with a social media network - phew! that was hard work (and fun) to connect and is still ongoing. Then an extremely heavy cold landed me in Complete Exhaustionsville for over a week. Managed to pack in one jurying session, my season opener at the Blim Community Market, delivered my work for a gallery exhibition and a workshop for teens during Spring Break during all of this .....ah yes, and Spring Break!

Is It Spring Yet? - a little late this year!

My final entry for the Make It March set - a new Is It Spring Yet? bracelet, completed as a demo piece during Wednesday's teen workshop at Place des Arts (what fun it was!).

Three strands of argentium sterling wire crochet hold white and clear beads (glass, crystal, pearls, white jade) in orbit around the wrist with the three tender "shoots" of spring aka three tiny vintage glass beads nestling in the mix.

I try to make at least one of these at this time of year. Usually the mood comes from being completely fed up with all the snow and atrociously cold weather but this year it's been so mild that Spring has arrived early, without stress. The new green shoots burst forth with ease and the magnolia trees were in bud way before last year's crop.

Is It Spring Yet? started off life as a long, opera-length necklace and has evolved thru the years to cuff and now bracelet. All have the three little green beads nestled into the mix representing my wish that spring should come soon.
